Weymouth and Portland

Congratulations on passing the Dorset County module! Now you are at the last step to becoming a Dorset Ambassador, and have chosen the Weymouth and Portland module as your ‘specialist subject’.

This course is for everyone who works in tourism but in particular those who live and work in Weymouth or Portland. It provides you with all the basics you need to make sure visitors receive the warmest possible welcome, vital for anyone who needs to know what the town offers. And you will learn some interesting facts – facts you can pass onto your customers when they ask.

Make sure you read each section carefully before attempting the quiz at the end.

When you’ve completed this successfully you will be a Dorset Ambassador and can print your certificate. And, if it inspires you to go further, you can always complete one of the other regional modules as well. We are also pleased to let you know that there is now a free Dorset Ambassador pin badge available for you to wear with pride. Please email tourism@westdorset-weymouth.gov.uk with your postal address and we will ensure that your badge is sent to you.

So why is Weymouth, and its sister town of Portland, so popular with visitors?  Both offer something completely different, so between them they can offer something for everyone.  The Georgian grandeur of Weymouth’s Esplanade, and the golden sands and safe shallow waters of Weymouth Bay make it a perfect destination for a traditional day beside the sea; while the ‘Isle’ of Portland offers a rugged, explorer’s Island with spectacular views over the World Heritage Jurassic Coast and all kinds of wildlife to discover.

Together, they make a fantastic destination, for every kind of holiday and for many different types of visitors.
