Congratulations on passing the Dorset County module! Now you are at the last step to becoming a Dorset Ambassador, and have chosen the Shaftesbury and North Dorset module as your ‘specialist subject’.
This module is for everyone who works in tourism but in particular those who live and work in North Dorset. It provides you with all the basics you need to make sure visitors receive the warmest possible welcome, vital for anyone who needs to know what the area offers. And we hope you will learn some interesting facts – facts you can pass onto your customers when they ask.
Make sure you read each section carefully before attempting the quiz at the end. When you’ve completed this successfully you will be a Dorset Ambassador and can print your certificate. And, if it inspires you to go further, you can always complete one of the other regional modules as well. We are also pleased to let you know that there is now a free Dorset Ambassador pin badge available for you to wear with pride. Please email email@example.com with your postal address and we will ensure that your badge is sent to you.
North Dorset is largely rural with beautiful rolling countryside, small market towns and pretty villages. The Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (which covers a total of 380 square miles of countryside overlapping the boundaries of Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset) also forms part of North Dorset.
Its key attraction is the historic town of Shaftesbury in the east, but there is also pretty Gillingham at the northern tip of Dorset, Blandford in the south, and Stalbridge and Sturminster Newton in the west. Much of the area is dominated by the River Stour valley known locally as the Blackmore Vale.
The area was popular with the ancient kings of Wessex and England and today’s visitors can enjoy popular walks, cycling, fishing or visit historic houses, gardens, local towns and villages with their unique charm and character.
In this course you will follow five short lessons. Once you have finished this module and answered the quiz you will be an official Dorset Ambassador and can print your certificate!
